Accommodation options in Uganda aren’t as diverse as in other east African countries. This itinerary combines first class and luxury camps and lodges.
Lake Victoria Hotel
This lovely colonial style hotel is located only four kilometers from the airport on nine acres along the shore of Lake Victoria. The 99 rooms have recently been refurbished to four star quality and feature private baths. The well maintained gardens are caressed by breezes off the lake and guests are free to enjoy them, the swimming pool, and health club. Entebbe Botanical Gardens is a short walk from the hotel. Two restaurants offer international cuisine and outdoor dining.
Ndali Lodge is perched on the rim of an extinct volcano which, since its demise, has filled with water to become the breathtaking Lake Nyinambuga, 250 acres in size and 130 meters deep. There is a main thatched lodge with spacious sitting room, reception area and dinning room flanked by 8 cottages providing luxurious accommodation for 16 guests. The cottages face west to offer a panoramic view to the spectacular 'Mountains of the Moon', were designed by Capt. Mark Price and are built of local stone and thatch. The interiors are imaginatively and comfortably furnished, the decor emphasizing the use of local materials.
A charming boutique lodge with 8 luxurious cabins sandwiched between the rolling hills and a tranquil crater lake. Jacana is familiarly known as "the lodge that grew out of the forest." Each room overlooks the lake and the forests beyond. The region is home to numerous primates and perhaps one of the best places to catch the migration of the butterflies. Facilities include: a swimming pool, sauna, public areas (including various decks, a restaurant and bar, a floating pontoon (to have a fancy meal in the middle of the crater lake), forest walks, and mountain biking. The design of the lodge is unique in its use of wood, rope and stone and took into account the topography and greenery of the site to give a feeling of truly being immersed in nature. The resort was designed on site without the aid of drawings or models and was one of the first eco-friendly properties in the country.
Gorilla Forest Camp
Gorilla Forest Camp is a permanent luxury tented camp nestled in the mist-swathed rain forests of a mountainside in the heart of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The camp is designed to blend seamlessly into its environment. It consists of 8 double tents, raised on wooden platforms, each with en-suite facilities, hot and cold running water and a bathtub looking out onto the forest. Each tent has a spacious wooden veranda where guests can relax, enjoy a private meal and absorb the exotic mystery of the surrounding rain forest. The Gorilla Forest Camp offers a bar and dining cottage overlooking the rain forest, as well as a raised natural platform for open air dining. At night, a traditional African campfire is lit from where a lecture might be given by a visiting primatologist, gorilla briefings are held or where the myriad brilliance of Bwindi's crystal clear mountain sky is admired with a night cap.
Mihingo Lodge is a peaceful and exclusive retreat adjacent to Lake Mburo National Park. It features ten rooms which are built on wooden platforms with stilts, covered by a thatched roof. Suspended under the thatched roof is a spacious and comfortable tent equipped with en-suite bathrooms with stunning views, including hot and cold running water, showers, and flush toilets. Each luxury tented room is nestled on a private piece of the lodge's property, enabling guests to enjoy the tranquil environment in complete seclusion. Placed in varied settings, some rooms are situated in a forest, some with a lake view, and some on rocky outcrops.
